About our practice

At USC Genetic Counseling, we are committed to providing informative, compassionate genetic counseling services for you, your family, and your physician as part of your healthcare management.

We work closely with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, and with physicians throughout the Midlands and state, to provide comprehensive prenatal genetic services and outpatient care. In cancer genetics, we partner with medical oncologists, surgeons, and other physicians across the Midlands to provide timely, convenient cancer genetic counseling and testing.

In partnership with the Department of Neurology, we offer a state-wide, out-patient, multidisciplinary clinic for individuals with Huntington Disease (HD) and their families. We also address other adult genetic conditions.

Home to the first Genetic Counseling Master’s Program in the southeastern United States, the USC genetic counselors also provide clinical supervision and training to graduate students, requiring our group to be on the forefront of emerging technologies and principles.

Our services

Our genetic counselors are board-certified through the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) to offer clinical and genetic expertise, and to assist you in decisions about genetic testing and screening.

Genetic counselors meet with patients from various social, cultural, and educational backgrounds to provide the following types of information:

  • Family history risk assessment and explanation of risk
  • Genetic testing and understanding of results
  • Assessment of psychosocial status following a genetic diagnosis
  • Implications of genetic disorders for the individual and their family
  • Resources to help patients understand a genetic diagnosis
  • Referrals for specialized care

We look forward to the opportunity to participate in your care!
