Our students have the opportunity to experience six weeks of full time clinical rotations at sites throughout the United States and abroad during the summer between first and second year. The summer rotation allows the student to take on the role of genetic counselor at a comfortable pace and provides deep appreciation for the clinical, research and administrative capacities of the genetic counselor. Students often choose unique settings which allow them to experience a new area of the country or even travel to another country.
We also place students in a 1-2 week laboratory rotation in a variety of settings. This allows an in depth exposure to the intricacies of laboratory genetic counseling, which has become a common employment setting for genetic counselors in recent years.
Here’s where USC Genetic Counseling traveled in 2015 and 2016.
